All children at Holy Trinity School will engage with scientific learning that is fun and enjoyable. They will understand scientific processes and concepts. They will develop an understanding of the science of the future and the world.
The children will learn key skills and knowledge that is embedded into their long-term memory that they will take through their lives in to adulthood and future careers.
Science Knowledge Skills Progression Grid
Science stimulates and excites pupils’ curiosity about phenomena and events in the world around them. It also satisfies their curiosity with knowledge. Because Science links direct practical experience with ideas, it can engage learners at many levels. Scientific method is about developing and evaluating explanations through experimental evidence and modelling. This drives critical and creative thought. Through Science, pupils understand how major scientific ideas contribute to technological change – impacting on industry, business and medicine and improving the quality of life. Pupils are encouraged to question and discuss science-based issues that may affect their own lives, the direction of society and the future of the world. The school’s policy for Science is based on the National Curriculum for Key Stages 1 and 2. Wherever possible, lessons are practical and creative, with considerable time allocated to the discussion of ideas. This policy has been drawn up to reflect a whole school approach to Science at Holy Trinity.
Subject Overviews
Teaching of scientific knowledge, conceptual understanding and scientific enquiry
Scientific knowledge and conceptual understanding are taught through specific disciplines of biology, chemistry and physics. Children develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries that help them to answer scientific questions about the world around them. Children are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science today and for the future.
Science Week: 6th - 10th March – Exploring Earth & Space
During the week 6th – 10th March, we celebrated Science Week at Holy Trinity. This was a fun week, jam packed with exciting scientific investigations and practical activities as well as some cross-curricular lessons linking Science with English, Art, PSHE and MFL. The theme for the week was Earth and Space. Lots of children carried out their own investigations at home and then presented these in school.
The week ended with a very special Science Fair, run in collaboration with the Ogden Trust. It was a real pleasure to welcome parents and carers in to school to view the amazing work that the children had completed throughout the week. Well done everyone!
