English as an Additional Language (EAL)

Our EAL Vision:

To provide an environment where children with English as an additional language feel safe and secure so they can engage with and learn English, enabling them to access our broad and focused curriculum, as well as integrating and communicating with peers and staff.

Implementation

Many different languages are spoken by the children and families at our school. Including: Mandarin, Polish, Italian, Spanish and Norwegian to name only a few.

Therefore, at Holy Trinity all pupils need to feel safe, accepted and valued in order to learn. For pupils who are learning English an additional language, this include recognising and valuing their home language and culture. As a school, we are aware the bilingualism is a strength and that EAL pupils have a valuable contrition to make. We take a whole school approach, including ethos, curriculum and promotion language awareness and difference.

Lessons are carefully planned by the teachers to ensure that our EAL learners have access to appropriate support and resources, in order to achieve their potential.
