Autumn Term 2026
The children have been settling into school and getting to know each other and the routines of school life.
We have started our reading journey together learning the different letter sounds through the Little Wandle Phonics programme. (Please look at the phonics and reading page on the website for more details.)
Through practical and teacher led activities the children are learning to hold their pencils correctly, mark make and simple maths skills too.
They have also been enjoying the activities in the outside area such as construction, sand play, creative activities and our new explorer corner area.
The children will also be completing other activities linked to the EYFS profile. Please see the examples below:
Personal, Social and Emotional Development:
The children will be learning the classroom rules and learning to play and share with the other children in the class.
The children will also be thinking about the importance of taking turns in conversations and that everybody's opinions are important.
After half term the children will be looking at the topic Count Down to Christmas where we will be learning about the meaning of this special time and using lots of different activities and crafts too.
Phonics:
At Holy Trinity we believe that all our children can become fluent readers and writers.
This is why we teach reading through Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised, which is a systematic and synthetic phonics programme.
The children will also bring home a phonics book where we will ask them to draw pictures of objects starting with the letter sound we have learnt. For example a sock for the letter s.
Please click on the links below to see the different phonemes and graphemes we will be teaching and learning during the Autumn Term.

Literacy:
During literacy activities the children will be learning lots of different elements such as phonics for the development of early reading and writing, language skills for reading comprehension and writing activities and physical skills to write recognisable letters.
Handwriting:
Whilst the children are learning the different letter sounds we will also be learning the correct way to hold a pencil when writing and also practice to use scissors in the creative area.
Mathematics:
During our maths lessons the children will be learning about the different numbers to 5 to begin with and then to 10. The children will be completing lots of practical activities to help them recognise these numbers in lots of different ways. The children will also be learning number writing rhymes to help them form the numbers correctly. These rhymes were also in your welcome pack.
Understanding the World:
Understanding the World is one of the four specific areas of learning in the EYFS framework. It involves guiding children to make sense of their physical world and their community. This is achieved by providing opportunities for the children to explore, observe and find out about people, places, technology and the environment.
PE:
Our PE days are on a Tuesday for Class 1, Wednesday for Class 2 and a Friday. The children will be changing for PE at school. The children will have the chance to be outside and inside. We will begin inside with using the apparatus and learning the climb, jump and land safely.
Don't Forget:
The children will need to bring their book bags each day as they will be bringing home reading books and phonics folders to practice at home.
The children will need to bring a water bottle each day. Please only put water in this bottle - thank you.
If you have any worries or concerns, please talk to adults in your child's class. We are always here to help!
