2021 Cohort
Geography: Volcanoes
We were so impressed with everyone’s volcanoes—thank you for all the hard work that went into completing them at home. The children absolutely LOVED erupting them, and it was definitely an experience they will remember for years to come!
People and Places Day
Today, Year 4 have been learning about Gandhi and how important he was. We found out lots of facts, including the fact that he was given the name Mahatma meaning great soul.
The children completed various activities about Gandhi and it prompted some interesting discussions too.
DT - Making Instruments:
We used junk modelling to create our own musical instruments as part of our Design and Technology unit. This activity linked closely with our Science topic on sound, helping us explore how different materials and shapes can affect the way sound is produced and heard. It was a fun and creative way to combine practical design skills with scientific understanding!
One of our gifts from Father Christmas was a pillowcase and some fabric pens. We had the chance to design our very own pillowcase! It was so much fun, and we are really proud of our creations. Thank you, Father Christmas!
We learned a new skill this year - creating Christmas cards using digital art! At first, it was a little tricky since we hadn’t tried this before, but we soon got the hang of it and produced some fantastic designs.
Christmas Jumper Day:

Science - Vibrations:
We can explore how vibrations create sound by sprinkling a little dry rice on the skin of a drum. When we strike the drum, the skin vibrates quickly, and these vibrations make the rice grains move and jump. This helps us see the vibrations that are normally invisible. The sound we hear is produced because the vibrating drum pushes against the air particles around it, creating sound waves that travel to our ears. The stronger and faster the vibrations, the louder and higher the sound becomes. This simple activity shows that sound is caused by vibrations moving through a medium like air.

Investigation
We also spent time investigating other instruments and how they vibrate to create sound waves.
Times Tables Rockstar Day:
We had a great time celebrating Times Table Rockstars Day! We enjoyed creating our own Rockstar and designing a guitar. We did lots of TTR practise and enjoyed competing against the other Year 4 Class! We all looked amazing and enjoyed dressing up!

Science – States of Matter
For our Science unit, we looked at changing of states. We looked at how the particles change when an item is going from solid to liquid. To help us understand this we did a Science experiment on melting chocolate. We saw the different stages of the melting process and thought about how the particles must be during the different stages. We then were lucky enough to have a spoon of the melted chocolate – yum!
