Geography

Our Geography Vision:

‘Geography is a living, breathing subject, constantly adapting itself to change. It is dynamic and relevant… Geography is a great adventure with a purpose’ - Michael Palin

Geography is more than being able to name and locate countries on a map. We aim to inspire children to explore their curiosity around Geography through a wide range of experiences looking at both human and physical features. Children should be leaders of their own learning; asking questions and being fascinated about the wonders of the world we live in.

We aim, not only to inspire, fascinate and broaden children’s knowledge but encourage them to give their learning a meaningful link to the current world, climate and their own life experiences, giving them a well-rounded approach to the subject.

Implementation

Geography is taught from EYFS to Year 6 and requires a specific teaching approach. Our teachers use a range of teaching methods to create Geography lessons that are both engaging and informative. Practical based learning is woven throughout the Geography curriculum which gives children a chance to see what they have learnt in action. We aim to give all children a good understanding of what Geography is, as well as develop their skills and understanding around the subject.

The four areas that underpin our Geography teaching are:

  • Place knowledge
  • Locational knowledge
  • Human and physical geography
  • Geographical skills and field work

Impact

Pupils will develop a deep understanding of what they have been taught, integrating this learning into their long term memory.
